Importing accounts and transactions from Buxfer

Easily import your accounts and transactions from Buxfer using our custom import tool.

Exporting your accounts and transactions from Buxfer

To start, you will need to export your transactions from Buxfer so that you can import them into PocketSmith.

Buxfer offers a range of file exports, but it is important to choose a CSV download. By importing your exported CSV file from Buxfer, all of your old accounts and transactions that were previously stored in Buxfer will be created in PocketSmith.

Use the steps below to generate a complete export from Buxfer.

  1. Log in to your Buxfer account
  1. Head to the Dashboard
  1. Scroll to the Transactions section and select the DOWNLOAD icon
  1. Select the date range and accounts you'd like to include in your file export, and select EXCEL (.csv) from the Format dropdown menu.
  1. Click DOWNLOAD and your accounts and transactions will be downloaded to your computer in a CSV file. You can now import this file into our Buxfer importer!🎈

Importing your Buxfer files into your PocketSmith account

Important

When importing data from another app, we recommend using a fresh PocketSmith account to avoid creating duplicate bank accounts.

If you have just started your PocketSmith journey and already have some data in your account, it's best to reset your PocketSmith before attempting to import data from your previous Personal finance management app.

For details on restarting your account, see: Options for resetting your PocketSmith account.

Now that you have your Buxfer files ready to import into your PocketSmith account, you can access the importer easily (just follow the steps below).

Or you can jump straight to the importer here - Buxfer importer - and follow the instructions below, from step 4.

  1. From the Welcome page, Select Start here from the Upload your data option
  1. Then select MOVE FROM ANOTHER APP
  1. Select Buxfer from the selection of apps
  1. Drag and drop your Buxfer CSV files directly onto the page, or click Choose File to select a file.
  1. PocketSmith will display a summary of the accounts and transactions within the file. If everything looks good, click Yes, continue importing
  1. Wait for your files to be processed 🤓
  1. Enter the bank names and balances for each account. Click Save and continue when completed.
  1. And just like that, you're all done! You have successfully moved from Buxfer to PocketSmith
  1. Take a look at the DashboardAccount Summary, or the Transactions page to see your accounts and transactions
